Accomplishments

In the short time since OWC was established, we have dramatically impacted our industry and help pushed for policies that will benefit all of our colleagues across the state, but there is more to be done.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges, and legislative and regulatory changes continue to threaten the industry.

OWC will be an important voice as we move beyond these challenges and the impact they have had on our industry, our customers and our state. We know that in order to address these challenges and move forward as a stronger and more sustainable industry, we will be better served if we all work together.

In the short time since OWC was founded, the organization has made a significant positive impact on Oregon’s wine industry.

Some of OWC’s Proudest Accomplishments Include:

Successfully defeated legislation that would have negatively impacted Oregon wineries and growers by creating new taxes on grape sales, new requirements for wine labeling standards, and increasing stringency of varietal and geographical purity requirements.

Advocated on behalf of wine industry members to ensure that those who are taxed by the Oregon Wine Board have an appropriate and fair voice in determining how their tax dollars are spent.

Engaged with media across the state to raise awareness of member concerns with the Oregon Wine Board structure and the threats facing many Oregon wineries and growers from the legislature.

Engaged OLCC on rules and issues important to the wine industry, including coordinating with statewide advocacy efforts related to OLCC regulations.

Launched a strategic effort to refocus our industry by establishing an organization committed to accountability, transparency and representation of wineries and growers in every region of the state.

Engaged with business groups to ensure wine industry members have a voice at the table when decisions are made that impact the broader business community.

Initiated advocacy effort to fight potentially debilitating beer and wine tax.

Provided industry leadership during COVID-19 crisis, ensuring that industry input and engagement was included in all reopening guidance.

Contributed to development of COVID-19 agriculture housing guidelines and harvest guidelines.
