OHSA Heat and Smoke Resources

As a reminder, Oregon OSHA formally adopted the long-debated heat and smoke rules this May. The Heat rules will have an effective date of June 15 and the Smoke rules will have an effective date of July 1. Oregon OSHA has posted resources to help employers understand and comply with the rules. Additional information can be found here.

  • Heat illness prevention online course Designed to satisfy certain training requirements found in the heat rule, the course addresses such topics as common signs and symptoms of heat-related illnesses, risk factors, how the heat index is measured, and access to shade, drinking water, and other measures.

  • Fact sheet about the key requirements of the heat rule: This five-page document highlights the rule’s key overall requirements, offering a reader-friendly summary of what employers and workers need to know about the rule.

  • Wildfire smoke online course: Designed to satisfy certain training requirements found in the wildfire smoke rule, the course addresses such topics as air quality measurements, health effects and symptoms, the proper use of filtering face piece respirators, and other safety measures.

  • Fact sheet about the key requirements of the wildfire smoke rule: This six-page document highlights the rule’s key overall requirements, offering a reader-friendly summary of what employers and workers need to know about the rule.


Wildfire Risk Explorer

The Oregon Wildfire Risk Explorer is designed to identify the wildland urban interface and wildfire risk at the property ownership level. It shows a comprehensive view of wildfire risk within the State of Oregon, indicates local fire history, and offers additional resources. This site provides information regarding support for homeowners, communities, and professionals to identify and prioritize local wildfire prevention, mitigation efforts, and implement defensible space standards where applicable.
